Volunteer training to research school district policies to protect immigrant students

Who: Anyone interested in conducting Web based research to verify school districts’ compliance with new state law that protects immigrant students
What: A new state law, AB 495, took effect on Jan 1, 2026. It requires all school districts to update existing policies that protect immigrant students, and to adopt the “Know Your Educational Rights” checklist for students and families. In this event, our chapter will train you on how to research school districts’ policies and Web page to verify compliance with AB 495. After the training, you will be assigned a few school districts to research, and to report your finding to our chapter.
